Uttrayan

During uttarayan every year, our efforts focus on educating the public about the harmful effects of kite flying on wildlife particularly birds, which are often injured by sharp kite stings. We organize volunteer drives to collect discarded or dangerous kite string, preventing further harm. In 2024, we had established camp where people could bring injured birds for immediate care. Birds requiring further treatment were promptly transported to hospitals, ensuring they receive the necessary medical attention in time. Through this initiative, we also managed to collect almost 500kg of kite string, significantly with the help of our volunteers and connected Paathshala. By educating the community about appropriate celebration, this activity not only saves countless bird lives but also makes sure that the joy of Uttarayan doesn’t come at the expense of our feathered friends.

Water Pots Distribution

During the intense summer heat in Ahmedabad, we launch our water pot distribution campaign, focusing on reaching schools across the city. Our goal is to educate students about the harsh conditions birds and animals face during the summer months and to encourage them to play an active role in alleviating their suffering. Through awareness sessions, we emphasize the importance of compassion and the need to protect these vulnerable creatures from dehydration. As part of this initiative, we provide free earthen water pots to students and strategically place them in key locations throughout the city. These pots are regularly refilled by dedicated volunteers assigned to each region, ensuring a consistent supply of fresh water for the animals and birds in need. This simple yet impactful project not only quenches their thirst but also fosters a sense of responsibility and empathy within the community, highlighting the significance of kindness and resource sharing in times of extreme weather.

Clothes Distribution

Our clothing distribution campaign is an ongoing, year-round initiative aimed at providing good-quality, wearable clothing to those in need. We collect gently used clothes from generous donors, as well as brand-new items, which is a truly heart-warming gesture of kindness. Before distributing the clothing, we carefully identify areas where the need is greatest, including impoverished neighbourhoods both within and outside Ahmedabad, ensuring that the aid reaches those who will benefit the most. Our dedicated volunteers meticulously clean, sort, and pack the clothing to ensure it is ready for distribution. In addition to clothing, we also distribute essential items such as utensils, toys, and supplies for new born babies, addressing a broader spectrum of needs within these communities. This campaign promotes a culture of reuse and sharing within our community, encouraging others to contribute and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

Plastic Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle Projects

In our plastic management programs, we emphasize the principles of the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Our goal is to minimize plastic waste by encouraging responsible habits in our community. We actively run awareness campaigns focused on reducing plastic consumption, promoting the creative repurposing of plastic items, and advocating for the recycling of single-use plastics. To bring these ideas to life, during uttarayan we set up a dedicated stall showcasing discarded plastic into useful and creative items like planters, artificial flowers, garden seating arrangements, a table-and-chair set, a bridge, and even a dog house, all crafted from eco-bricks. These displays demonstrate how plastic waste can be turned into functional and sustainable products, inspiring others to think outside the box.

Additionally, we integrate these principles into every aspect of our events, ensuring that plastic usage is minimized wherever possible. Our gift items are made from eco-friendly or recycled materials, further promoting our commitment to sustainability. Through these initiatives, we’re not just managing waste; we’re fostering a culture of creative problem-solving and environmental stewardship within our community.

Charity Fair

In 2023, we launched our first charity fair with the vision of supporting NGOs by providing them with a platform to sell their handmade products and showcase their skills to a larger audience. Our goal was to uplift these organizations by connecting them with the community in meaningful ways. To expand the impact of this initiative, we also collaborated with small business owners, offering them a chance to sell their products while contributing to a cause greater than themselves. Our two-day charity fair offers more than just shopping—it’s a chance to enjoy delicious food, engage in fun interactions, and connect with the community. The event turns each purchase into a meaningful act of giving, fostering a true spirit of togetherness. At the end of the event, all the funds collected from the stall owners were donated directly to the participating NGOs, giving them not only financial support but also much-needed encouragement to continue their impactful work. The event provided these organizations with a unique opportunity to reach a broader audience, allowing them to raise awareness about their missions and showcase their incredible skills.

Our charity fair has become more than just a marketplace; it’s a celebration of social responsibility, community spirit, and the power of collaboration. It serves as a platform that not only generates funds but also raises awareness about various social issues, empowering both NGOs and social entrepreneurs.

Old Age Home Visits

The senior citizens in the assisted living facilities enjoy and benefit from our frequent visits. Our volunteers converse, play games, and engage in other activities with the elderly while spending valuable time with them. In addition, we arrange health examinations and supply necessary items. These visits not only make the days of the elderly happier, but they also help to build relationships between generations. It’s a wonderful program that serves as a gentle reminder to us all of the value of showing respect and caring for our elderly and fostering happy and meaningful relationships.
